How can I help my child at home in reading?
Attendance is critical. Please ensure your child attends school every day unless your child is ill.
Have your child read to you at home each night. A take-home book, book bag, and word cards will be provided for your child.
Read to your child. Listening to an adult read helps a child build fluency and comprehension skills.
Talk to your child about what they have read. Ask your child who their favorite character was, or the problem in the story. Ask your child if they would have solved the problem the same way or what they would have done differently. Conversation supports comprehension.
